How to make espresso ?


Recipe for a good espresso

In this article, we’ll show you how to make a great espresso at home :)

 What you need :
  • An espresso machine
  • A coffee grinder
  • Coffee beans
  • A scale
  • A portafilter
  • Water (preferably bottled water like Spa or filtered water)

Step 1: Prepare the equipment

Make sure your espresso machine is clean and ready to use. Fill the water reservoir with quality water. For a good espresso, it is recommended to use bottled water, like Spa, or filtered water that you can easily find in stores. Water has a significant impact on the taste of your coffee.

Step 2: Grind the coffee

Take 18 grams of coffee beans. Use your coffee grinder to grind them. The grind should be fine, similar to powdered sugar. This will allow for optimal extraction.

Step 4: Prepare the extraction
  • Insert the portafilter: Place the portafilter into the espresso machine and lock it in place.
  • Start the extraction: Begin the extraction by pressing the button on your machine.

Step 3: Dosing and tamping
  • Weigh the coffee: Use the scale to precisely weigh 18 grams of ground coffee.
  • Fill the portafilter: Pour the ground coffee into the portafilter.
  • Tamp the coffee: Use a tamper to press the coffee evenly. Apply firm and consistent pressure to create a smooth surface.

 Additional tips:
  • If the extraction is too fast (less than 25 seconds), try grinding the coffee a bit finer.
  • If the extraction is too slow (more than 35 seconds), try grinding the coffee a bit coarser.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of coffee or the extraction time according to your personal preferences.

Step 6 : Enjoy

Once you've reached 36 grams, stop the extraction. Your espresso is ready! Take a moment to appreciate the aromas and the crema forming on the surface.

Step 5: Monitor the extraction

Let the coffee flow into your cup. You should aim for a volume of 36 grams of liquid coffee. Monitor the extraction time: it should be between 25 and 35 seconds.
